CRM & Java Applications Developer Sr – Saint Paul

Job Summary:

This senior level position will be responsible for the development and support of Java and Vitria applications at Blue Cross. This position will construct and integrate all of the various OO-components, presentation layer, data accessors, security, etc. required to build and support our Java applications using web-based technologies. As part of these duties, this developer will also be responsible for analyzing user and system documentation, procedures, and problems to enhance and/or support existing Java and Vitria systems. In addition, this position will provide guidance and mentoring to projects and/or other Java developers.

Accountabilities:

1. Provides technical expertise within the business area and on projects in the analysis, design, and development of Java-based applications.
2. This person will be developing Java and Vitria based applications
3. Works independently and/or in conjunction with other application developers, OO-modelers, component developers, user interface developers, database analysts, etc. for integrating and constructing the application.
4. Constructs, tests, implements, and modifies Java application programs -- creating the framework and integration for the various components, data, user interface, etc. within the application.
5. Upgrades system and corrects errors to maintain applications after implementation.
6. Ensures quality of software solutions by performing necessary unit and integration testing.
7. Works with customers to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements for screens, reports, and various data stores, then provides application solutions and/or alternatives for meeting these needs.
8. Updates functional specifications and requirements. As needed, write detailed documentation of user needs, program functions, and steps required to modify/enhance the application.
9. Reviews computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system. Then prepares and updates workflow charts and diagrams to specify detail operations to be performed by equipment and computer programs and operations to be performed by personnel in system.
10. Constructs builds for deploying the application into the various test and production environments as required.
11. Performs on-call duties, carrying a pager and responding to and resolving issues during off-hours.

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
2. Strongly desire Vitria or Pega experience
3. Required experience in the following technologies and methodologies: Java development (3 year minimum, if no degree, than 6 yrs) JSP and HTML development, Javascript, XML, Stored procedure development, Servlet development, Experience with App Servers/Web Servers (Websphere experience a plus), Relational database technology (Oracle), Object Oriented lifecycles development, Configuration management technologies (i.e. Clearcase, Harvest, etc.)
4. Desired experience in the following technologies and methodologies: JAVA IDE & UML modeling and development tools (i.e. JBuilder & Rational Rose), EJB component based development experience based on J2EE, Web-based security experience (i.e. LDAP, Policy Director, etc.), Kana/Aspect, Java Bean development, Rational Tools, RUP
5. Solid understanding of relational database and database design fundamentals.
6. Demonstrated human relation skills to effectively interact with management, peers, subordinates, internal and external customers and vendors.
7. Good oral and written communication skills.
8. Healthcare experience with ANSI x12 EDI transactions is a plus.
